GALLATIN, TENNESSEE — Two seasons ago the sophomore guard Byron Dean signed to play his second season of college basketball with the Volunteer State Community College Pioneers for the 2017-18 season prior to already playing one year at Campbellsville University.
Playing his junior year for the Silver Lake College Lakers Dean was awarded by the USCAA with an honorable mention for All-American and Academic All-American First Team. The Pioneer alumni this past season averaged 17.7 points per game, 40.2 percent from the field, and 78.9 percent in free throws.
As part of his accolades, he has also been remembered as the second highest scorer in Hillwood High School basketball history in the 2014-15 season breaking the 1,000 point mark.
Playing for the Pioneers Dean totaled 275 points for his lone year in Gallatin. He averaged 11 points per game, 65.1 shooting percent from the field, and started in 19 games for his sophomore campaign.
For his final season, Dean will stay at Silver Lake and wrap up his collegiate career. Starting 24 games last season and averaging 17.7 points per game he played in the Lakers have a bona fide JUCO experienced player who is poised continue what he did last season on the court.
