Pioneers travel to Western Kentucky University for their third and final showcase of the fall on Sunday. Vol State will get a big test in game 1 vs Wabash Valley at 12:30 and then face Lakeland at 5:00 pm. The Warriors finished their season last spring as one of the last 4 Division 1 teams still standing before losing to eventual National Champion Chipola in the semifinals at Grand Junction.
This isn't the first game against a 2017 Grand Junction participant this spring. The Pioneers played very well vs TCCAA foe Dyersburg State a few weeks ago at Austin Peay, shutting out the Eagles 5-0. Vol State is 3-1 in showcase games this fall. Although that stat doesn't hold much weight, it has given the Pioneers some optimism about what awaits for them this spring. "These are two very good programs we will get a look at this weekend; we play both early in the spring. So, like most fall contests the results do not matter much but these two games will give us a good indication of what high level baseball looks like outside the conference," said Coach Hunt
Rain is in the forecast, but WKU has upgraded their facility that boasts an all turf field now. Stay tuned to our Twitter feed for updated info on changes for the weekend schedule.
