Neers Head To Chattanooga for Final TCCAA Regular Season Road Trip

Neers Head To Chattanooga for Final TCCAA Regular Season Road Trip

Vol State (23-16) (TCCAA 9-11) travels to Chattanooga for their final road trip of the TCCAA regular season to face the Chattanooga State Tigers (31-14) (TCCAA 10-10).  The teams split 2 games in 2017 with the 3rd game being rained out, but that should have little to do with this year's series.  The Tigers have a whole new roster in 2018 that has produced some worthy stats this deep in the season.  Theron Powell comes leading the Tigers in hitting at an impressive .422 clip.  Chattanooga State has 4 more hitters above .330 which is going to be a test for the Pioneer pitching staff to keep guys off base.  Sean Connelly has been very productive hitting .391 with 29 stolen bases in 31 attempts. The Tigers boast some pretty impressive numbers on the mound as well with a team ERA of 3.28 and have struck out 331 hitters in 288 innings.

The Pioneers have scuffled the last few weeks getting swept at Cleveland and losing 2 games to Motlow in a rain shortened weekend last week.  Vol State has proven they can play with anyone in the conference, but really need to start clicking and get some momentum heading into the stretch run.  Weather has adversely affected Vol State the last few weeks, the Neers are really hoping that getting back to the usual 9 inning game Friday and two 7 inning games on Saturday will be a benefit.  With 2 regular season weekends left, the Neers could still move up in the standings before the TCCAA Tournament begins in Chattanooga May 6th.
