GALLATIN, TENNESSEE — As more conference games come up on the schedule, most notably the games that will be tomorrow and Saturday, the Vol State Pioneers (3-7) head down to Chattanooga State and Cleveland State to tip-off for a conference showdown.
Previously on the games last year against these teams the Pioneers dropped four games to these teams. Having a series at home and away last season the losses then put the Pioneers lower in the conference rankings. This time around Chatt and Cleveland are different teams in the conference.
Chattanooga State (5-3) on the season has split their conference games (2-2) to be in fifth place in the conference as of now. A weapon to watch out for is #3 Jaden Rodriguez who is shooting a conference-best 62.9 percent from the three-point range. As of late for the Tigers, their last game was a conference loss in Jackson, Tennessee to the Green Jays 80-77.
Cleveland State (3-7) like the Pioneers have not had the right success they have wanted to have in the conference this season. Sitting in ninth place being (1-3) in the conference is the cougars but as for the Pioneers, no game should be taken for granted in a situation like this.
Something to look out for this weekend as the Pioneers tip-off. George Stanberry is 22 points away from hitting 1,000 career points in his junior college career. If Stanberry hits the mark tomorrow night it will have taken 36 games to do so.
Once the weekend games are over with the team will not have a game until after Christmas break. The return to action will be on Jan. 8 at home against Trevecca University's JV squad. Following that tune-up game, Walters State and Roane State will visit that weekend for two conference matchups.
The game tips-off against Chatt State tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m. EST. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis on the games this weekend by following @VSCCPioneersMBB on Twitter. Pre-game and post-game coverage will be tweeted and live streamed.
